At the beginning of the 1920’s London was in a good state. After the First World War there wasn’t much money and people were quite poor. By the end of the decade, life was very different. London was the city of the future. There were new buildings, “talking films” in the cinemas and the BBC. There were machines to help with housework. There were social changes too, for example divorce and a Labour government. Londoners were much better off than before. The new London in the 1920s was a culturally diverse place and was in touch with international ideas. There was jazz from America, ballet and Bolshevism from Russia.
How was London in the 1920’s different to today?
